HOW WE WORK

Before starting the mix, we talk to the band about how they want the finished track to sound. What matters to us is what the band expects and what direction they would like to take their sound in.

We often ask for references in the form of complete tracks that the band likes, that are stylistically close to their music, or that have an interesting sound. The goal is not to copy the sound of a particular drum or guitar. A reference helps us define the overall direction we want the sound of the track to take.

Of course, the possibilities of mixing depend on how the material was recorded. A large part of the sound is created during the recording process, which is why it is helpful to establish its character before the session begins. The mix can then become another stage in developing the sound, rather than an attempt to build it from scratch.

For mixing, we use UAD, Waves and other digital tools. Every recording is treated individually, and we adapt our approach to the specific track.

Mixing can also be an opportunity for more creative solutions. If it fits the music and the band’s vision, we can use additional samples, effects or editing techniques. If the band doesn’t like a particular idea, we simply remove it.

We approach mastering as a hybrid process, combining digital tools with external analog equipment. Among other things, we use tube compressors and transformer-based hardware.

Once the mix and master are ready, we send the material to the band. We wait for their feedback and suggestions and, if necessary, make revisions. We can also meet in person and finish the work on the track together.

We do not set a fixed limit on the number of revisions. What matters to us is that the final result is consistent with what we agreed on beforehand and meets the band’s expectations.

The finished material is prepared in the appropriate formats for streaming platforms, CD and YouTube.

If we are working on a single track, we aim to complete the entire mixing and mastering process within one week. Naturally, the turnaround time depends on the number of tracks and the studio’s current workload.
